When does the UK tax year start and end?

The UK tax year starts on 6 April and ends on 5 April the following year. For example, the 2025/26 tax year runs from 6 April 2025 to 5 April 2026.

When is the Self Assessment tax return deadline?

For the 2024/25 tax year, the paper return deadline is 31 October 2025. The online return deadline and the deadline to pay any tax you owe is midnight on 31 January 2026.

What are Payments on Account?

Payments on Account are advance payments towards your tax bill for the current year. They are due in two installments: 31 January and 31 July. Each payment is half of your previous year's tax bill.
